 Just having a Generator doesn't mean you can run your lights, heating and other hardwired appliances from it.  The Generator needs to connect to your Consumer Unit so you have complete control over which circuits you will power, this also requires a changeover switch and connection socket for your generator.  If you are worried about power cuts then get in touch for a free quote.
