Just having a Generator doesn't mean you can run your lights, heating and other hardwired appliances from it. Backup Generators need to connect to your Consumer Unit so you have complete control over which circuits you will power, this requires a Changeover Switch and a suitable socket to plug your Generator into.
Not all Home Generators are suitable for connecting to your home electrical system. Speak to us first before you order your Generator. If you prefer to be sure you have the right generator for house then we would be happy to supply it for you, this can be discussed during the survey and included in the FREE no obligation quotation
Backup Generators can be quite noisy, however in a power cut this becomes less of a concern, although the best position would be away from your external walls of the house and any open vents or windows as you don't want Carbon Monoxide fumes entering the home. Ideally a covered well ventilated area or enclosure is recommended.
Is it worth the money? This is a question you may have a different outlook on when the power goes off, you loose the heating and hot water and the freezer starts to defrost. Petrol Backup Generators are more cost effective than a battery backup system when you take into account the short amount of time that power cuts occur. We will provide a FREE no obligation quote so you can decide for yourself
Many new homes are now running purely on electricity with no gas or oil supply. We can supply up to 7kW of power from a petrol generator which is enough to run the heat pump in an average 4/5 bed home. You could even charge your electric vehicle depending on the type of charger you have installed, we will advise on this at the time of carrying out the survey / quotation
